WIPERAPP ensures secure and reliable data wiping by leveraging S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) to assess disk health before initiating the wipe process. WIPERAPP monitors critical S.M.A.R.T. attributes, and if any exceed predefined thresholds, the disk is excluded to prevent data loss or hardware failure.
WIPERAPP allows operators to configure the following attributes based on organizational safety protocols. By default, all configurable values are set to 0, meaning disks with any errors are excluded automatically:
Attribute ID | Attribute Name | Default Limit Value |
5 | Reallocated Sectors Count | Configurable (default 0) |
184 | End-to-End Error/IOEDC | 0 |
196 | Reallocation Event Count | Configurable (default 0) |
197 | Current Pending Sector Count | Configurable (default 0) |
198 | Uncorrectable Sector Count | Configurable (default 0) |
ATTENTION: Raising any threshold above 0 should only be done with approval from your organization’s safety policies, as this could allow potentially faulty disks to proceed with the wiping process.
For disks that don’t support S.M.A.R.T. attributes, WIPERAPP assesses their general condition. If a drive’s health is critical, it notifies the operator and logs the status in the final report for transparency.
By proactively handling disk errors, WIPERAPP:
Key Feature | Description |
Protects Data Integrity | Excludes problematic disks to prevent failures during the wiping process. |
Ensures Compliance | Meets organizational and regulatory safety standards for data sanitization. |
Provides Transparency | Logs all critical data and disk health details in reports for easy auditing. |
